The Center will be involved in three types of activities: development and application of capabilities, development of large-scale research programs, and organization of training and workshops.
The Center will play an active part in developing and supporting capabilities to enhance the understanding of high priority bio-threat agents and expedite the design of appropriate countermeasures to control them. The purpose of this effort is to develop capabilities for rapid response to novel bio-security challenges by pursuing appropriate fundamental research.
The Center will lead efforts to develop large-scale projects in Bio-Security Science. The Center\'s role in these efforts will be to provide leadership, a long-term scientific vision and a Laboratory-wide view suitable for high-level presentation to government agencies and private foundations.
The Center will organize training and workshops to educate faculty, students, post-docs, and technicians in novel research concepts and technological innovations in Bio-Security Science. Specific emphasis will be placed upon end-to-end research in this field.
