Mission Incubator Centers

The Energy Security Center along with the Information Science and Technology Center and the Center for Bio-Security Science were established to foster the development of new science, technology, and programs at LANL. The Mission Incubator Centers work with LANL's line organizations and program development and research efforts, foster science and technology for programs, and enhance national recognition of LANL capabilities and programs. Focus Areas for the three Mission Incubator Centers:

Bio-Security:

  • Developing advanced diagnosis and detection platforms
  • Developing pre-symtomatic diagnosis of infection
  • Developing vaccines and therapeutics that cannot be defeated by the pathogen
  • Developing complete strategies for disease surveillance and management—from threat identification to characterization, detection/diagnosis to countermeasures

Energy Security:

  • Developing materials and concepts for clean energy
  • Predicting and mitigating the impacts of global energy demand
  • Supporting the implementation of sustainable nuclear energy

Information Science and Technology:

  • Fostering science, technology, and engineering to address LANL, DOE, and national IS&T needs
  • Coordinating Lab-wide scientific IS&T efforts and aligning them with future needs
  • Positioning LANL to compete in larger markets for funding in this important and growing area
